Community manager
Escrito a partir de fontes publicadas
The person who tends the space where users of a technology meet each other. Where an advocate teaches and carries feedback, a community manager builds the conditions in which people help one another: the forum, the meetups, the events, the norms, and the recognition that keeps contributors contributing. The output is a group of people who would continue without the company, which is both the goal and the risk.
De quem recebe
- The community
- Everything, including the parts posted at two in the morning.
- Advocacy and support
- Technical answers, and the recurring questions worth addressing structurally.
- The company
- Programmes, budget and whatever it hopes the community will do.
A quem serve
- Community members
- A place where their question gets a real answer and their contribution is noticed.
- The company
- A relationship with its users that survives individual staff and individual releases.
- New arrivals
- A path from lurking to contributing.
Do que o trabalho depende
A community succeeds when members answer each other, and that success looks like the company doing less. Every intervention that resolves a question centrally is a question the community stopped needing to answer, so the discipline is restraint: connecting people, recognising the ones who help, and leaving room for an answer to arrive from somebody with no badge. Managers who hold that line build something that outlasts them, and have to explain the quieter numbers meanwhile.
