Tufin - firewall policy, read back to you
A company whose product is understanding the rules you already wrote.
Tufin builds software that analyses, visualises and changes firewall policy across a mixed estate. The market it sits in exists for one reason: past a few hundred rules, written by several people over several years, nobody can say with confidence what a firewall permits - and the device itself will not tell you, because it answers the question it was asked rather than the question you meant.
Tufin was founded in Tel Aviv in 2005 by Ruvi Kitov and Reuven Harrison, both formerly of Check Point - which is the relevant fact about it. People who had built a firewall went and built the tool for living with one, having seen what customers actually did to rule bases over years rather than what the product documentation assumed.
Its suite splits the problem the way operations does: SecureTrack for visibility, auditing and compliance across what is deployed, SecureChange for automating the change itself, and SecureApp for describing connectivity in terms of the application rather than of addresses and ports. That last framing is the useful one, because the person requesting a change describes a business need and somebody then translates it into rules that outlive the request.
It stayed privately funded until its New York listing in April 2019, and in August 2022 Turn/River Capital took it private in an all-cash deal of roughly 570 million dollars, a 44 per cent premium on the prior close.
Read alongside AlgoSec, founded a year earlier and self-funded for fourteen years, the pattern is clear enough to state. Two companies built to manage firewall policy both financed themselves from customers for a long time, which is what happens when a product solves a problem the buyer already knows they have. The market did not need to be created; it needed to be noticed.
- skyboxsecurity.com now serves a Tufin page welcoming Skybox customers
Fetched 2026-08-11: the domain resolves to a Tufin transition page, which is how the absorption is visible from outside.
