Sorting incoming problems by severity and routing them, so that the queue reflects impact rather than arrival order.
The name comes from battlefield medicine and carries the same uncomfortable implication: triage is the decision about what will not be worked on yet. Done well it is invisible; done badly it shows up as a critical fault sitting behind a printer request.
