Palo Alto Networks' name for its founding network-security family: the next-generation firewalls and everything that manages and subscribes to them.
When Palo Alto Networks regrouped its portfolio into three platform brands in 2019, Strata became the home of the original business: PA-Series hardware firewalls, VM-Series virtual and CN-Series container firewalls, Panorama management, and the subscription services layered on top (Threat Prevention, URL Filtering, WildFire, DNS Security, and kin). The name signals the layered, on-path enforcement model the company was built on, in contrast to its two younger siblings: Prisma for cloud-delivered security and Cortex for security operations. In vendor conversations, 'Strata' is simply shorthand for the firewall estate.
