C2

acronym

securityhacking

Stands for: command and control

The infrastructure an attacker uses to control compromised machines remotely.

Command and control is how malware phones home for instructions and exfiltrates data. Defenders hunt for its telltale beaconing, the regular check-ins to a controller, because that pattern is often what betrays an otherwise quiet compromise.

Also known as: c2, cnc, c&c, command and control
