The 2001 Manifesto and everything it unleashed - individuals over processes, working software over documentation, responding to change over following the plan.
Seventeen practitioners met at a Utah ski lodge in February 2001 and distilled a decade of lightweight-methods rebellion into four values and twelve principles. The word became an umbrella: Scrum's sprints and standups, Kanban's flow, XP's engineering practices all shelter under it, and half the vocabulary of modern work - backlog, retro, velocity, MVP - leaked out of it into everything. The honest reading for infrastructure people: Agile is a bet that feedback beats prediction, and it wins exactly where requirements genuinely cannot be known up front - which is why 'agile transformation' succeeds in product teams and turns to ritual theater where the work is actually operations.
