payload
termThe part of an attack that carries out the intended action, once delivery succeeds.
If the exploit is how you get in, the payload is what you do next: run a shell, install a beacon, encrypt files. The same word appears benignly in networking for the data portion of a packet; context tells you which meaning is in play.
