Stands for: Service Identifier

An identifier that maps a service to a fabric-wide virtual network.

In Shortest Path Bridging, a Service Identifier (I-SID) tags traffic so the fabric knows which virtual network a frame belongs to, decoupling the service from any specific VLAN and letting the edge signal membership without running the core protocol.
