RFC 2549 (IP over Avian Carriers with QoS)
loreAn April Fools' RFC from 1999 that adds quality of service to the pigeon-based IP transport of RFC 1149.
RFC 2549 keeps the deadpan of its predecessor while layering on class-of-service handling, queue management and the observation that the carriers are self-regulating: high-priority traffic is simply carried by faster birds. It also notes that the protocol has a built-in loss mechanism in the form of predators. The joke works because everything it describes is a real QoS concern stated without a single false note.
