PoE injector
termnetworkingIT support
Stands for: Power over Ethernet injector (midspan)
The midspan device that adds Power over Ethernet to a link whose switch cannot supply it.
An injector sits between a non-PoE switch port and a powered device, inserting DC onto the pairs per 802.3af/at/bt so a distant access point or camera runs without local mains. The reverse device - a splitter - extracts power back out for gear that lacks PoE input. Injectors solve the one-off case; at scale, PoE switching in the closet replaces the wall-wart forest.
