Stands for: Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry - and the region's operator meetings
The Latin American and Caribbean internet registry - the steward of the region's IP addresses and AS numbers, whose twice-yearly meetings double as the region's operator congress.
One of the five regional internet registries, LACNIC (established 2002, headquartered in Montevideo) allocates IPv4, IPv6, and autonomous system numbers across Latin America and the Caribbean, and runs the open policy forum where the community writes its own allocation rules. The meetings are the events: held around the region jointly with LACNOG, the operators' group, they concentrate the continent's BGP, peering, IPv6, and security conversations in one week - with fellowship programs that deliberately pull new engineers into the room. For a region that entered the IPv4-exhaustion era early, LACNIC's meetings are where the transition has been argued, measured, and engineered.
