Stands for: Furukawa Electric LatAm - Brazil's structured-cabling standard-bearer (cabling brand now Lightera)
Furukawa Electric LatAm - the name on Brazil's structured cabling for decades: the Curitiba-based operation of Japan's 1884-founded Furukawa Electric, whose cabling brand now carries the Lightera name.
Ask a Brazilian installer whose cable is in the wall and the answer is usually Furukawa: the LatAm operation (headquartered in Curitiba, with plants there, in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, and beyond) made the brand synonymous with cabeamento estruturado, aligned to TIA/ISO and Brazil's own ABNT NBR 14565. Its FCP program - Furukawa Certified Professional, delivered through authorized centers with mandatory official training before the exam, and recognized by BICSI toward the RCDD - is one of the market's pioneering cabling certifications and a rite of passage for the country's infrastructure trade. The recent rebrand puts Lightera on the certifications and solutions; the installers still say Furukawa.
