The standards lineage behind structured cabling - the TIA-568 family that defines the categories, connectors, and distances of every wiring closet.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (successor to the EIA side of the old EIA/TIA partnership) publishes ANSI/TIA-568 and its siblings: the cable category definitions (Cat 5e, 6, 6A, 8), the T568A/T568B pinouts, channel lengths, and the data-center and pathways standards. When a datasheet says 'meets Cat 6A', this is whose test limits it means.
