Citizens Band (CB)
termnetworkingops culture
A small licence-free or lightly-licensed radio allocation near 27 MHz with fixed channels and low power limits.
Worth keeping firmly distinct from amateur radio, which the equipment can superficially resemble. CB has no examination, no individually-issued callsign, fixed channels, and tight power limits; amateur radio is a licensed service with allocations across the spectrum and permission to build your own transmitters. Sitting at the top of HF, CB occasionally propagates by sky wave during high solar activity, which is why distant stations sometimes appear on a channel that should be local.
