callsign
termnetworkingops culture
A unique identifier issued to a licensed radio station, structured as prefix, digit, and suffix.
The prefix range is allocated to a country by the International Telecommunication Union, so a callsign is legible worldwide without explanation. Brazil holds the entire PPA to PYZ block plus ZV to ZZ for special stations, and Anatel issues within it using a two-letter-plus-digit scheme where the digit is regional: PY2 is Sao Paulo, PY1 Rio de Janeiro, PY4 Minas Gerais. The letter series also signals licence class in Brazil, so a PU station is distinguishable from a PY one on the air.
Also known as: call sign, indicativo, PY2
