The 2015 demonstration by Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek that a Jeep Cherokee could be taken over remotely over the cellular network - through the entertainment head unit and onto the vehicle's internal bus - reaching the transmission, brakes and steering while a journalist drove it on a public highway.
Wired published the drive; Fiat Chrysler recalled 1.4 million vehicles, the first cybersecurity recall in automotive history; the Black Hat and DEF CON talks that followed turned car security from a curiosity into a regulated discipline. The technical moral is old and familiar: an infotainment radio and a brake controller had no business sharing a bus without a boundary between them.
