Started by Jeff Moss in 1997 as the suit-friendly counterpart to DEF CON, Black Hat USA now anchors 'hacker summer camp' in Las Vegas, with Europe and Asia editions. Its Briefings are a premier venue for vulnerability research disclosure; its expo floor is where the vendor industry meets that research. Now operated by Informa Tech, it remains the conference companies budget for when DEF CON reads as too informal.
