Co-organiser of the Hackers to Hackers Conference in Sao Paulo alongside Rodrigo Rubira Branco, founder of PRIDE Security, and a researcher whose published work includes automated teller machine jackpotting. He took sole leadership of H2HC from 2025.
The handover is worth recording because succession is where volunteer conferences usually die. After twenty-one years Branco announced publicly that he was stepping away from the organisation and that Balestra would carry it, and the conference continued - a deliberate, announced transition rather than an event quietly ending. Latin America's oldest security research conference surviving its founder's exit is a governance achievement as much as a technical community's.
