The facility where a submarine cable comes ashore and connects to terrestrial networks - housing the power feed equipment for the cable's optical amplifiers and the transmission gear that hands traffic to carriers.
It is the concentration point that makes cable diversity misleading. Several cables often land within a short stretch of coast and feed the same backhaul, so a country counting four systems may have one effective failure domain. Landing stations are also the physically accessible end of an otherwise inaccessible asset, which makes them the relevant target for both regulation and interference - the seabed is hard to reach, the building on the beach is not.
