Founder of DragonJAR, the Colombian security company and the largest Spanish-speaking security community of its era, and creator of the DragonJAR conference in Manizales - recognised with Ekoparty's lifetime achievement award.
His strategic choice was language. DragonJAR was built in Spanish, for a region whose practitioners were expected to consume security knowledge in English, and the community and forum that grew around it trained a generation that had no other local reference. His own research - notably work on attacking the connected systems of cars sold in Latin America - made the point that regional targets deserve regional researchers, since nobody in the northern hemisphere was testing those particular vehicles.
