CAN (campus area network)
acronymnetworking
Campus area network: several local area networks across adjacent buildings under one owner, joined by cable that owner controls.
It is the scale at which the vendor certification tracks are actually taught, and the scale where the hard problems first appear: several buildings means a distribution layer, redundant paths, spanning tree or its successors, and a routing decision between floors. Not to be confused with the controller area network of the same acronym, which is an in-vehicle bus and an entirely different subject.
