Stands for: Security BSides São Paulo (Co0L BSidesSP)
The community-run, free security conference of Sao Paulo - born inside Garoa Hacker Clube in 2011, now among the largest BSides anywhere.
Co0L BSidesSP is part of the global Security BSides movement: volunteer-organized, free to attend, and deliberately community-first - dozens of villages, a CTF, lightning talks, a Brazilian open-source arsenal track, and BSides 4 Kids. It traditionally runs the weekend before YSTS; the 2026 edition marked fifteen years since the first one was held inside Garoa. The hot dogs are free too, by the hundreds.
BSidesSP is part of the global Security BSides movement, which began when a major conference's rejected talks turned out to be worth hearing anyway. The model is volunteer-organized, free or near-free to attend, and deliberately open to first-time speakers.
The open call for papers is the entire mechanism. A researcher with no reputation cannot get accepted at an established conference, and cannot build a reputation without presenting somewhere, which is a loop that keeps new voices out permanently unless something breaks it. BSides breaks it by design, accepting people who have never presented and treating the first talk as the point rather than a risk.
What it produces is a pipeline rather than a single event. Speakers who start at BSides go on to the larger conferences, and the community gets researchers it would otherwise never have heard from, particularly people without employers who fund conference travel. Running it on volunteer effort and minimal budget is genuinely hard, and the movement's persistence across dozens of cities is a quiet argument that the barrier was never talent.
