DXC Technology - what a merger of service businesses inherits

Formed from two large IT services organisations, and therefore from their contracts.

DXC Technology is a multinational IT services company formed from the combination of large existing services businesses. Merging service organisations is unlike merging product companies: what is acquired is not a catalogue but a book of long-running contracts, each with its own inherited estate, staffing model and set of promises made years earlier.

That is why integration in this sector is measured in years rather than quarters. Two service businesses can be legally one company and operationally two for a long time, because the contracts underneath them cannot be renegotiated on the merger's schedule - they expire on their own.

For an engineer, the practical consequence is that the badge on the pass says less than usual about which practices, tooling and escalation paths apply. The contract does.
