Supermicro - the hardware underneath somebody else's brand
A great deal of infrastructure is built on boards whose maker is not on the bezel.
Supermicro supplies servers, motherboards and systems, frequently as the physical substrate for products sold under other names. That position - the manufacturer behind the appliance - is common in networking and security and almost never visible to the people operating the result.
It matters operationally more often than it should. Firmware, baseboard management controllers and hardware errata belong to the underlying platform rather than to the badge on the front, so an advisory that concerns your appliance may be published by a company you have no relationship with.
Knowing what a device actually is - rather than what it is sold as - is the difference between reading the right security bulletin and reading none.
