Sage Networks is a network engineering company founded in 2018 in the Campinas region, working on distributed denial-of-service defence: on-premises appliances, automatic detection, cloud mitigation and a continuously staffed operations centre.
Choosing denial-of-service as the speciality says something about where the difficulty actually is. Mitigation is not a product decision, it is a routing decision: the question is where the traffic is absorbed and how quickly the path can be changed, which makes it a network engineering problem wearing a security label.
The combination it sells reflects that. On-premises equipment handles what fits on the link; cloud mitigation handles what does not, because no amount of local capacity survives an attack larger than the circuit. Deciding which is which, in the seconds available, is what the operations centre is for.
It is also a young company in a market whose incumbents are large and long-established. Denial-of-service defence rewards that: the decisions are operational and made in seconds, and a small team that owns its own mitigation path can answer faster than a process that has to cross three departments.
