Exclusive Networks - distribution with five hundred engineers

French specialist cybersecurity distributor, listed on Euronext Paris in 2021 and taken private again from 2024.

Exclusive Networks was founded in 2003 near Paris and became the largest specialist distributor of cybersecurity technology, with gross sales of EUR2.9 billion in 2020, offices in more than forty countries and delivery into over a hundred and seventy.

One figure in its own listing material explains what specialist distribution means: 2,200 employees, of whom more than five hundred are engineers. A general distributor moves product and extends credit; roughly a quarter of this company’s staff exist to make a technology work in a market where the manufacturer has nobody. Its own phrase for the model is global scale, local sale.

That is the layer most vendor documentation never mentions and every vendor depends on. A security manufacturer entering a new country does not open an office; it signs a distributor who already has the partners, the credit relationships, the local language support and the engineers who can answer a question at the right hour.

The ownership history is a small lesson in what a stock market listing is for. Permira funds owned it, floated it on Euronext Paris in September 2021 at a valuation near EUR1.8 billion, retained about 55% - and from 2024 moved with Clayton Dubilier & Rice to buy the public shares back and take it private again. The listing was not an exit but a stage, and the company spent three years public between two periods of private ownership.
