Etek NovaRed - a Brazilian firm owned from Miami, then from Santiago
Brazilian information-security company, a Chilean-American joint venture from 2012 and wholly Chilean-owned from 2021.
Etek NovaRed Brasil was one of the larger Brazilian integrated information security providers, with more than thirty years of activity and services running from education and awareness through consulting to managed security. From 2012 it was a joint venture between NovaRed of Chile and Etek International Corporation of Miami; in August 2021 NovaRed bought the other half and the Etek name went.
The ownership path is the reason it is here, because it is a shape the rest of this timeline does not contain. Brazilian security firms on these pages were bought by an aircraft manufacturer, a physical-security multinational, a private-equity roll-up and a competitor - all of them either Brazilian or from the northern hemisphere. This one was owned half from Miami and then wholly from Santiago.
That matters for a reason beyond novelty. A regional acquirer buys for regional reasons: the same languages, adjacent regulators, customers that operate across several of the same countries, and a security operations centre in one country that can watch estates in another. The group that resulted runs three such centres, one of them in Brazil.
It is also a reminder that Latin American technology has an internal market that reporting from outside the region rarely describes. The buyer was not a global consolidator arriving; it was a neighbour.
