WPA
acronymnetworkingsecurity
Stands for: Wi-Fi Protected Access
The Wi-Fi Alliance's security scheme for wireless LANs - WPA2 and WPA3 today, replacing the broken WEP.
WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) came as an urgent fix for WEP; WPA2 made AES-CCMP the standard; WPA3 (2018) added stronger handshakes (SAE) and forward secrecy. Each has a Personal mode (pre-shared key) and an Enterprise mode that delegates authentication to 802.1X/RADIUS. When a network prompts for 'WPA2-Enterprise', that is WPA riding on the port-based access control from the 802.1 group.
