The telecom room where a floor's cabling terminates - patch panels, switches, and the boundary between horizontal and backbone cabling.

Structured cabling pulls every outlet's horizontal run back to a telecom room (TR): panels in front, switch ports patched behind, backbone links riser-ing to the main distribution frame. The MDF/IDF vocabulary maps onto it - the main room and the per-floor intermediate ones. Its unglamorous disciplines - labeling, cable management, cooling, locked doors - decide whether the site is maintainable in five years.
