telemetry
termops culturesecurity
The measurements a system emits about itself, sent somewhere else to be stored and read.
The word hides a decision: something chose what to emit, and everything not chosen is invisible no matter how good the analysis is later. That makes telemetry selection an architectural act rather than an operational one, and it is usually made by defaults - the agent's out-of-the-box configuration decides what the organisation will be able to investigate for years. The second constraint is cost, which is why the useful question is not what can be collected but what will still be affordable to keep when the estate doubles.
