RJ45

Stands for: RJ45 (8P8C modular connector)
The eight-position modular connector on the end of nearly every Ethernet patch cord - properly the 8P8C plug.
'RJ45' is the name that stuck from the old telephone registered-jack scheme; the connector Ethernet actually uses is the 8P8C (eight positions, eight contacts) modular plug and jack. It terminates four twisted pairs per the T568A or T568B pinout, appears as plugs on cords and as keystone jacks in panels and wall plates, and its locking tab - and that tab's tendency to snap off - is universal field experience.
Also known as: rj45, 8p8c, modular plug, keystone
