Real Programmers Don't Use Pascal
loreops cultureprogramming
A 1983 satirical essay whose 'Real Programmer' is a macho hacker who scorns high-level niceties.
Ed Post's parody of 'Real Men Don't Eat Quiche' celebrated the FORTRAN-and-assembly old guard who disdain structured programming and helpful tools, half-joking and half-nostalgic. The archetype it named still surfaces whenever someone insists the harder, lower-level way is the only true way.
Also known as: Real Programmers Don't Use Pascal, Real Programmer
