Personal area network: the few metres around one person, where devices pair with each other rather than joining an infrastructure.
The interesting property is that it has no administrator. Pairing is a decision made by whoever is holding the device, which is why the security model is consent at a moment rather than policy over time, and why enterprise control over this layer is weak wherever it exists at all. Headsets, keyboards, wearables and vehicle links all sit here, and all of them are network attach points that no inventory contains.
