The US not-for-profit that operates federally funded R&D centers - and, for practitioners, the home of ATT&CK, CVE, and CWE.

MITRE (the name is not an acronym) stewards the common vocabularies of security operations: the CVE program numbering public vulnerabilities, CWE classifying weakness types, and the ATT&CK knowledge base of adversary tactics and techniques that detection engineering and purple teams are organized around, with D3FEND as the defensive counterpart.
