Media converter
termnetworkingIT support
Stands for: Media converter (copper to fiber and between fiber types)
The small box that translates one physical medium to another - classically copper Ethernet to fiber and back.
A media converter bridges a link's two halves at layer 1/2: extend a copper run beyond 100 m by jumping onto fiber, connect a copper-only device to a fiber plant, or join multimode to single-mode segments. Standalone units and chassis versions exist; many modern deployments prefer a switch with SFP ports doing the same job. Simple, cheap, and a classic silent point of failure worth labeling.
