mandelbug

jargon

programming

A bug whose causes are so complex and tangled that its behavior looks chaotic or nondeterministic.

Named after the infinitely intricate Mandelbrot set, it is the bug you cannot pin down because it seems to depend on everything at once. It sits in the family with the heisenbug, which vanishes when observed, and the bohrbug, which is boringly reproducible.
