ICCC demonstration
lorenetworkingevents
The 1972 public demonstration of the ARPANET at the International Conference on Computer Communication.
Before it, packet switching was a funded research result that most computing professionals had not seen work. The demonstration put terminals in a Washington hotel connected to hosts across the country, running real applications for anybody who walked up. It converted a paper technology into an observed one, and much of the commercial interest that followed traces to people who were in that room.
