Stands for: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt

A tactic of spreading fear, uncertainty, and doubt to undermine a competitor or idea.

Classically aimed at buyers - implying a rival's product is risky or unproven to freeze a decision - the term dates to 1970s mainframe sales. In security it also describes vendor marketing that overstates threats to sell a fix.
