Data Privacy Framework

term

privacygovernance & risk

Stands for: EU-U.S. / Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF)

The mechanism for lawfully transferring personal data from the EU/UK/Switzerland to certified US companies.

The EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), with its UK and Swiss extensions, replaced the invalidated Privacy Shield. US companies self-certify to the Department of Commerce that they meet EU-equivalent protections, enabling transatlantic data flows without additional transfer mechanisms. It sits alongside GDPR on privacy-focused trust centers as the transfer-compliance answer.

Also known as: data privacy framework, dpf, eu-us dpf, privacy shield successor
