The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards: Brazil's national standards body and its ISO member.

Its NBR standards are where international standards become locally binding text, sometimes adopted verbatim as ABNT NBR ISO/IEC and sometimes with national annexes. For anyone working in Brazil this is the difference between an international standard being a reference and being a requirement, and the numbering matters: ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27001 are the same standard, cited two ways, and a contract will usually name one of them specifically.
