TamoGraph Site Survey
termStands for: TamoSoft's Wi-Fi site survey and RF modelling software
TamoSoft's Wi-Fi planning and site survey software, which performs passive, active and predictive surveys on Windows and macOS, from a privately held Christchurch company founded in 1998.
TamoGraph Site Survey is one of the three survey tools a wireless engineer is likely to carry, beside Ekahau's and the MetaGeek line now at Oscium. TamoSoft describes it as Wi-Fi planning and site survey software that helps you create and maintain reliable networks, with passive, active and predictive surveys, the last also called RF modelling, and full support of 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6 and 6E) and 802.11ac as well as the legacy standards. It runs on Windows 10, 11 and Server 2016 to 2022 and on macOS from Monterey to Tahoe. The company behind it, TamoSoft Ltd, was founded in 1998, is privately held, is headquartered in Christchurch, New Zealand, and serves customers in over 100 countries with a wired and a wireless packet analyser, a private LTE and 5G planning tool and a throughput tester beside the survey product.
The three survey types, in TamoSoft's own vocabulary. A passive survey listens: the engineer walks the floor plan and the software records what every access point's beacons look like from each point, signal, noise, channel, interference. An active survey connects: it associates to the network under test and measures what a client actually gets, throughput and round trips, at each point. A predictive survey, which the product also calls RF modelling, needs no walking at all: it draws the building's walls and materials, places virtual access points and computes the expected coverage, so a design can be argued about before anybody buys hardware. Most real projects use all three in order, predict, install, verify.
Standards and platforms. The product page lists full support of 802.11be, which is Wi-Fi 7, 802.11ax, which is Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, and 802.11ac, Wi-Fi 5, plus the legacy standards. It is available for Windows and for macOS; the Windows requirement is Windows 10, 11, Server 2016, 2019 or 2022, the macOS requirement Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia or Tahoe. The video tour on the page refers to TamoGraph 4.0.
The company. TamoSoft Ltd is, in its own words, a privately held company with headquarters in Christchurch, New Zealand, founded in 1998, with customers from over 100 countries. Its about page describes the catalogue without naming the products: a wireless site survey and RF modelling tool, a network monitor and packet analyser for wired networks, another for wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be networks, a design and planning tool for 4G LTE and 5G NR private cellular networks, and a utility for testing wireless or wired network performance.
Where it sits. Of the three survey tools on this site, Ekahau began as a University of Helsinki research group and now belongs to Ookla and, through it, Accenture; the MetaGeek tools began as a Boise side project and have had two owners since 2022; TamoGraph is the one whose company has stayed where it started. The industry record carries the dates for all three.
