Flipside - the organisation behind Roadsec
Ran the security event that reached the people conferences usually price out.
Flipside is the Brazilian organisation behind Roadsec, described on its own site as the largest hacker festival in Latin America. The site's glossary already carries Roadsec as lore; this entry names the organisation that produced it, which is how a community event acquires the continuity to happen every year.
Roadsec's distinguishing choice was reach rather than prestige: it toured Brazilian cities rather than concentrating in Sao Paulo, and priced itself for students. That combination decides who is in the room, and therefore who ends up in the field a decade later - which is the same argument this site's entries on training centres and the market-reserve period make from other directions.
The event's public record is uneven - its own site was last dated to a past edition when this entry was written - and that is recorded here rather than smoothed, because a community organisation's archive is usually thinner than its influence.
