Stands for: Basic Service Set Identifier
The identifier of one specific radio in a wireless network - in practice the access point's own address, as distinct from the network name.
One name can be served by hundreds of radios, and the client chooses between them; the identifier is how you tell which one it actually joined. That makes it the field that matters in wireless troubleshooting, because a complaint about the network is usually a complaint about one access point, and the aggregate hides it. It is also how a rogue announcing your network name is distinguished from your own equipment.
