SEK - a security company assembled by a fund

Latin American cybersecurity firm created by Patria Investimentos from NeoSecure and Proteus.

SEK - Security Ecosystem Knowledge - launched on 30 March 2023 as the unified brand for two companies Patria Investimentos had bought in 2021: NeoSecure of Chile and Proteus of Brazil. It began with 650 clients, 750 people and about a hundred million dollars of revenue, and stated a target of five hundred million within five years.

It is the clearest case on this timeline of a company that exists because capital decided a market should consolidate. Patria committed US$250 million to Latin American cybersecurity, created a holding for it in October 2021, bought the two firms, hired a chief executive from outside the industry the following year, and launched the combined brand eighteen months after that. Every step is a financial decision that happens to produce a security company.

The reason it works in this particular market is worth naming. Security services are bought on trust and delivered by people, so the assets are relationships and specialists - both of which are national, and neither of which scales by opening an office. Buying two established firms buys both at once, in five countries.

Its own stated priority alongside growth is training, in its founding announcements: using its size to help produce information security specialists, because the shortage of them is the constraint on the whole sector. That is a rare thing for a private-equity-backed company to name as a goal in its first press conference, and it is the same argument the training entries on this timeline make from the other side.

Acquisition continued after launch: Proof in 2024, NetBR in 2025, taking it past nine hundred people and eight hundred clients across five countries.
